Yesterday in Dubai, there was held 16th edition of World Travel Awards voted by travel agents from all over the world.
This time awards were given in the Middle East section in categories divided by the country, and general group with the title
Middle East's Leading for the best in the category.

Similar to the last years most Middle East categories has been won by businesses connected with Dubai,
the country which is determined to make the Trade and Tourism the basement of its economy.
Traditionally Dubai awarded title Middle East's Leading Destination with the best Airport,Marine,Cruise Port, Tourist Board and Travel Company.
Like last year the award in category Middle East's Leading Hotel has been scored by Dubai's symbol Burj Al Arab.

However, the rating on the 'Indian Hotels' is bullish.'India Hotel Industry' is adding about 60,000 quality rooms, currently in different stages of planning and development and should be ready by 2012. MNC Hotel Industry giants are flocking India and forging Joint Ventures to earn their share of pie in the race. Government has approved 300 hotel projects, nearly half of which are in the luxury range. Sources said, the manpower requirements of the hotel industry will increase from 7 million in 2002 to 15 million by 2010.

The rise of the automobile in the early twentieth century reordered the nation's transportation regime and marked the beginning of a new hotel age that lasted for more than two decades. The nineteenth-century American hotel system had been predicated upon long-distance, point-to-point, steam-driven water and rail transportation, and the gradual transition to automobility wrought major changes in the hotel industry. In an effort to secure the patronage of drivers, existing hotels added parking facilities, and new establishments incorporated them into their building plans. Other developers created the motor hotel, or motel, a new hotel variant which, instead of being located in cities and other travel destinations, was typically sited on inexpensive land along the roads in between. The automobile also influenced the hotel industry in construction and management techniques, as Fordist mass production fostered a corresponding drive for standardization and scale in hotels. E. M. Statler was the foremost figure in this cause. In 1908, he opened the first chain of hotels dedicated to his belief that hospitality should be made as similar as possible in every location. Statler's success with a business model based on cost cutting and scientific management made him the leading hotelier of his time and an important influence upon twentieth-century hotel administration. By 1930, as the Great Depression was putting a definitive end to this period of hotel building, the Census Bureau counted more than 17,000 hotels in the United States.

The American hotel industry expanded at a previously unseen pace following World War II. The three-decade economic boom of the postwar years increased the incidence of commercial travel and sent incomes soaring, and the success of organized labor distributed wealth more evenly and made paid vacations a reality for millions of workers. Meanwhile, the creation of the interstate highway system and the emergence of safe and reliable passenger aircraft made travel easier and more broadly subscribed than ever before. Hotels were similarly implicated in international politics. Americans ventured abroad in increasing numbers during the postwar years, and the nation's hotel industry expanded globally in order to accommodate them. In the context of Cold War geopolitics, American-owned hotels in foreign countries also served as exemplars of the benefits and vitality of capitalism. Conrad Hilton in particular spoke of his company's overseas properties, particularly those along the Iron Curtain, as valuable assets in the fight against communism. In a world simultaneously divided by politics and connected by transportation, hotels were important symbolic sites.

The American hotel industry benefited greatly from the uneven prosperity of the 1980s and 1990s and entered the twenty-first century as a large and fast-growing segment of the national economy. The hotels of the United States employed well over 1.4 million people and collected more than $100 billion per year in receipts. They formed a dense network of 53,000 properties comprising some 4 million guest rooms nationwide. Internationally, the industry operated more than 5,000 overseas hotels with over half a million rooms.

From its beginnings as an experimental cultural form, the American hotel became a ubiquitous presence on the national landscape and developed into an immense and vital national industry. The hotel system transformed the nature of travel, turning it from an arduous and uncertain undertaking of the few into a predictable and commonplace activity of the many. The Hospitality and Tourism Industry Training Council is the lead agency to the industry on education and training matters by providing advice to employers, employees, chefs, students, members of industry associations, unions, TAFEs, private training providers, school and state and federal government departments. The ITC's role is to work with both industry and government to support skills formation and workforce development for the industry. Our key role is to provide accurate industry intelligence to the VET sector about current and future skill needs and the training that is required in this state to meet those needs of industry.

The WA Hospitality and Tourism Industry Training Council is a not-for-profit organisation, which commenced operation in 1993, taking over the formal role previously performed by an industry committee. Now, if the Knicks were rebuilding, that wouldn’t be bad, but the problem is, they aren’t doing that, and they are spending money on players who, to put it nicely, stink. The Knicks have the second highest payroll in the NBA, and what do they have to show for that? A 18-46 record? Yikes!

If we look at the roster, Stephon Marbury is getting $20 million this season, and it goes up to $21 million next season. We all remember what happened earlier in the year with Stephon Marbury and Isiah Thomas. Before tackling the rest of the salary problems the Knicks have, let’s look at Marbury’s $20 million salary. Is he worth that much money for his playing ability and the “problems” he has caused in the locker room? The very quick and easy answer is a big NO. He has played only 24 games this season, and averages 13.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game, which are career worst’s. Those numbers are not worth $20 million dollars. The latest rumor is that Marbury won’t be back next season, but how are they going to dump that $21 million? The Knicks will have to eat a lot of that contract, and who knows what they will get back in return. It won’t be easy. Isiah Thomas seems set to resume coaching the Knicks without Marbury, but Thomas is just as big of a problem. His coaching ability is lackluster, and he can’t control his players. You can’t just blame Marbury for this season, you have to look at the coach, and I look at a coach I would not want to be leading my team. If you could get rid of those 2, then we will officially be talking about rebuilding for the future, and it would look bright.

#1 Problem for the Knicks,

If you can get rid of Marbury’s $21 million next season that will free up a lot of room, but another big problem is that they have big contracts that go all the way into 2010. Jamal Crawford is a player I will give a pass to because he is having a great season, and he could be someone you can build around. He will earn a valued salary of $8.6 million next year, and $9.4 million in 2010. Look at the other players who they have in 2010, and their salaries. Zach Randolph ($14.7 million in 09, $16 million in ’10), Eddy Curry ($9.7 million in ’09, $10.5 million in ’10), Quentin Richardson ($8.8 million in ’09, $9.4 million in ’10), Jerome James ($6.2 million in ’09, $6.6 million in ’10), and Jared Jeffries ($6.2 million in ’09 and $6.6 million in ’10). That is not money well spent. The money for those 5 players ties the hands of the Knicks and why they can’t get anything done, on a financial side. The Knicks salary total, as it stands right now for next season is at $90,991,250 million. That’s $2 million higher than this year, and without 3 of their current players, and without any new players. Something needs to get done to help this franchise, or they are in a lot of trouble down the road, with no light able to be seen at the end of their tunnel.

What the Knicks need is a fire sale. Try to find some teams to dump these contracts on. Even though they need to get back at least 20% of what they give, they can still try to improve the team this way. They also need to get rid of Isiah, and the front office, and have the Knicks start fresh. If they can't do this now, it's going to be a couple of years before they have the financial freedom to make moves that can help the team. I know if I had $88 million invested in a team I, wouldn’t have invested in the players that the Knicks currently have and I would look to see why a team with so much money, so much history and is in the biggest market in the world has a 18-46 record. All I would do is look down from my skybox at the court at any given game, and I would see about 20 reasons why.

Where to stay?
Although Manhattan has many neighborhoods, it's no surprise that most of its hotels are concentrated in Midtown from 34th to 59th Streets. With Broadway and the theatre district, major attractions, many restaurants, bars and many businesses located in Midtown, you'll encounter a busy area humming with activity. If you prefer a more off the beaten track location, the Upper West Side and Upper East Side surround Central Park and offer a bit more tranquility—although at a much higher price on the luxurious Upper East Side. South of Midtown, you'll encounter Chelsea, Greenwich Village, the West Village and East Village, each of which offers far fewer hotels but has a neighborhood feel amidst less taller buildings. With trendy restaurants and bars, parks, and proximity to the waterfront, some tourists prefer the boutique hotels, wild nightlife and generally younger crowds in these areas. Below the villages are trendy SoHo and Tribeca, which also offer luxury accommodations mixed with chic boutiques, hot restaurants and sizzling nightlife. Finally, the Financial District—also known as Lower Manhattan—has made a remarkable recovery since 9/11 and now boasts an increasing number of hotels. Despite some new restaurants and residential apartments, nightlife is limited in this area and you won't find many people on the streets here after dark.

What to spend?
Above all, do keep in mind that a budget hotel in mid-America does not compare in price to a budget hotel in New York. $250 (US Dollars) per night represents a great value in Manhattan, whereas $250 might get you four or five nights at a budget hotel in the Midwest! So for the first-time traveler, do accept that you will pay substantially higher rates here than elsewhere. Moreover, room sizes (like apartments) tend to be much smaller here than elsewhere in the United States. In short, you pretty much get what you pay for.

If you happen to find a room for under $100 per night, do expect the place is probably a dorm room at best or just above flophouse status at worse. Anything between $100 to $200 per night will likely be of average quality, but not the quality you would expect for that price elsewhere in the United States. The real test comes in choosing a hotel that costs between $200 and $300 per night. While you will find numerous possibilities, your might want your search criteria to consider location, special needs, amenities and room size. For example, if you are attending a show at the Javits Convention Center, the Upper East Side likely will not be your first choice of location. If you use a wheelchair, or have several small children, or perhaps travel with a
large dog, obviously those criteria are very important in choosing a room. Moreover, for the road warrior or frequent traveller, knowing that warp-speed Internet and other high-tech amenities are available and functioning can be critical in choosing a room.

If you come from a quiet, bucolic place, the street noise in Manhattan can initially be alarming, and we find that user reviews of hotels sometimes do not take this into account. While most hotels do have thick window panes that block out street noise, obviously a room on the 30th floor will have less interference from street noise (and substantially better views!) than a third-floor room. Obviously if your room is next to the elevator bank, you will hear more people in the hallway than if you stay at the end of the hall. In other words, individual preferences are a big factor in user reviews, and often when a hotel has mixed reviews it very much stems from the fact that the individuals who stayed in those rooms had vastly different needs and expectations. Some visitors do not mind any street noise, while others find they cannot sleep at all; some visitors choose location over all other criteria, especially when they plan to be out in the city all day and only use the room for sleeping. Still others plan a romantic visit and want to ensure they have the finest amenities, most comfortable beds, and flat-screen TVs in the room. So do please take note of these features when booking.

In the $300+ per night category, you will largely find that all the amenities and extras you would expect, along with stellar service. Should you find some detail overlooked or not to your standards, you would expect in this room class that management would respond to your needs right away. We too have stayed in New York's finest hotels, and from time to time even the finest rooms do actually need maintenance and to be restocked with various amenities.
